Review: Duvalay Luxury Sleeping Bag and Dinky Duvalay
We love spending time in our touring caravan. As you know, this summer Betsy the caravan has been based at Long Beach Touring Park in Norfolk; we have recently relocated down the road to The Grange Touring Park (a site review will follow shortly!) However much we love Betsy, sleeping on her firm seat cushions has taken its toll on our poor backs. That was until Duvalay came to our rescue!
Duvalay was set up, in the UK, in 2003 by husband and wife Alan and Liz Colleran. Like us they enjoyed caravanning but were affected by sleepless nights caused by backpain. They came up with the brilliant idea of using bespoke sized memory foam mattress toppers – to fit caravans. The range quickly expanded to accommodate beds in boats, campervans, trucks, and the home. After a highly successful pitch on Dragon’s Den in 2011, where Dragon Hilary Devey invested in Duvalay, the business has gone from strength to strength.
PackThePJs were sent two of their innovative products to try out: an adult single Luxury Sleeping Bag and a children’s Dinky Duvalay. For the purpose of this review, our adult-sized 10-year-old daughter (and 8 year old son) trialled the mattresses.
We apologise for the poor recording quality, but here is a quick video report made by the children …
The Duvalay sleeping bags are, in effect, luxurious duvets connected on one side to a memory foam mattress. You can purchase different thicknesses of mattress (2.5cm, 4cm and 5cm), summer (4.5) or winter (10.5) Tog rated duvets, and the choice of hollowfibre or microfibre duvet. The Dinky Duvalay comes with a coordinated pillow.
Each Duvalay sleeping bag has a quality feel when you unpack it. The cover has a luxury silky texture and the duvet is so soft you just want to climb inside! Even when the mattress has been rolled up for some time, it takes a short moment to become entirely flat and ready to be used.
The duvet is attached along one edge of the mattress. The advantage of this is that the duvet doesn’t fall off in the middle of the night (a common problem for the children in their bunk beds). The memory foam mattress is a godsend for your back – it levels out the contours of the seat cushions and adds some much-needed lumbar support. I tried the adult Duvalay sleeping bag for one night and, oh, it’s total bliss! Millie-Mae has taken it off me, but it’s only a matter of time until I order one just for me!
The children slept like babies in their beds – and they looked so cosy! We are used to them moving around quite a bit in the night, but not since they’ve had these sets; in fact, they are difficult to wake up in the mornings 🙂
The Duvalay luxury sleeping bags come in a range of cover colours – you can also buy replacement covers if you fancy a colour change. Toby loved the animal design of the Dinky Duvalay – a good choice for girls or boys.
Overall, we wish we’d have discovered Duvalay years ago (we missed the Dragon’s Den episode). We could have saved years of camping back pain! Both PackThePJs adults and children give this product a perfect 10 out of 10 … only issue is fighting over who gets to sleep in them 🙂
