Dubai is, without a doubt, one of the wonders of the modern world. A city born from the desert that now rivals the largest capital cities on earth with its skyscrapers, marinas and malls. However, arriving there for the first time can be quite daunting. We made our first visit to Dubai a few weeks ago and we felt that arranging a transfer from the airport to our hotel was important. Especially as we were arriving early in the morning after a night flight – getting to the hotel with as little stress as possible (so we could sleep!) was vital. Booking this journey ahead cut out all the unnecessary queuing for taxis and any problems we may have encountered with language.
Hoppa are a premium transfer service and promise to meet you at the airport and take you straight to your hotel with the minimum of fuss. We’ve used Hoppa before – in Abu Dhabi last year, and in San Francisco this year – faultless service, and so easy to book. It was a no-brainer to book our Dubai transfers with Hoppa too.
When you visit the Hoppa website you simply need to put the following in the search boxes:
- Pick up location
- Drop off (hotel) location
- Require a return (yes/no)
- Number of passengers
You’ll then be presented with a range of options, from private transfers to shared options. Some locations offer wheelchair accessible transport too. It all depends on how many people you are travelling with. Because we are a family of 4 (with a suitcase each), we always opt for a private mini bus transfer.
Once selected, you confirm and pay, and then you print off the booking acknowledgement. Then you are ready to travel!
At the airport
On arrival, while we were waiting for our luggage to appear on the carousel, I received a telephone call from our driver to say he was waiting for us.
When we walked through the Arrivals doors, we spotted our surname on a board and the driver was very smiley – wanting to help us with our bags. We were led to a large 7-seater MPV, set up for the 4 of us, with boot space ready for our suitcases.
What was most important was the air conditioning! The temperature – even that early in the day – was sweltering … and the air con was icy cold! Lovely.
The hotel wasn’t too far away, and turned out to be very close to public transport … but this was something we mastered once we had caught up on some much-needed sleep!
Hoppa provided an excellent, seamless service. In fact, we found all drivers and taxi drivers in Dubai to be as friendly as our Hoppa driver. Taxi journeys are not that expensive in Dubai – give 10 Dirhams tip (which is about £2) and you can’t go wrong.
Hoppa, yet again, proved their premium service status and I can recommend them to anyone wanting to travel from the airport to their chosen hotel in a timely fashion. The driver will be waiting with your name on a board (like a celebrity) and then off you go.
We also thoroughly recommend Dubai as a city to add to your ‘to do’ list. There’s so much to see and do there. It is the ultimate city break with the tallest building, the largest mall and even the most expensive hotels. If you go the souks, then life will definitely not be boring! Dubai taxis are an excellent way to get around, but don’t forget the Metro. We used it most days to get to the Dubai Mall – it’s clean, comfortable, efficient, air-conditioned, and fast!
