Bitmore VR EYE: Virtual Reality Headset

The Bitmore VR EYE is a virtual reality headset; in my mind, something out of a sci-fi movie! This is maybe because I’m a bit ‘old’ for virtual reality games – I am more of the Super Mario and Pac Man era – but I did want to try a virtual reality headset as I’ve seen them online. Well what can I say, I have an Android phone and the VR EYE is extremely compatible with that, but it can also be used with Apple phones as well.

The BITMORE VR EYE set comes with a Bluetooth remote control, which was easy to ‘pair’ with the phone. This allows you to switch between four different modes during use. The device can be used for music, photo, apps and gaming.

Following the pairing of the remote control I downloaded (under instruction from my 8 year old son) a virtual reality game called ‘Walking with Dinosaurs’. I then slid out the phone compartment of the VR EYE and popped in my phone. The phone is held inside by a rubber spring clamp. The phone we used was a Samsung Galaxy S6 and it was ideal. There are loads of virtual reality Apps to choose from on Google Play, so it’s a case of downloading lots of them to find the ones you like the best.

The lens optimised the graphics of the App and allowed the view to surround the wearer. Inside the BITMORE VR EYE headset you could look up and see the sky and look down to see the ground and then move around using the joystick of the remote control. Of course it is not just for games but can be used as a photo viewer or to view 3D videos and surrounding music.

The BITMORE VR EYE is a nice piece of kit although I do have one complaint! I left the house to go to work the following morning only to discover that my mobile phone battery was flat … my son had been using the headset all evening (and of course my phone with it). So if you buy one of these as a stocking filler this Christmas (and they would make a great gift), make sure the recipient has their own phone first!
