Review: Scruffs Balmoral Boot Dog Bed

Scruffs recently came to my rescue when I needed a solution to stop my dogs from damaging my car when they jump in/out. I have two English Springers, who LOVE a ride out in the car. However they get so excited they risk scratching my car bumper in the eagerness to jump in and out.

I have a small car (Citroen DS3) and the dogs have the whole boot when we go on days out. For longer journeys we have a large people carrier and they have a large crate in the boot, which is mega comfy for them. I’ve been looking for ways to ensure that the dogs are comfortable while travelling in my car. And ways to protect my car too. They shed hair everywhere, and being springers they tend to come home a lot muddier than when we leave the house. So it’s always my car that has to suffer!

What I really like about our Scruffs Balmoral boot bed – above everything else – is that it is machine washable at 30 degrees. It also fits PERFECTLY in my car boot, corner to corner (this was more luck than anything). The boot bed measures 100cm x 70cm and I reckon this will fit most family cars. It has a nylon outer cover and a really soft – and rather luxurious – plush lining. The nylon layer stops any dirt reaching the base of my boot.

Three sides of the boot bed are padded noodles of the nylon material, with the remaining long side having a roll-down cover that covers the car bumper. This doesn’t just protect my car (which is white, and shows every scratch), but it helps protect the dogs’ legs too.

Once the dogs are safely sitting in their Scruffs boot bed, you simply roll up the cover to become the bed’s fourth padded edge.

My dogs have ‘tried out’ their new car bed on several recent trips out. The bed hasn’t moved or bunched up, and (ignoring the hairs it is now covered in) shows no signs of wear or tear. It is clearly very durable. My car is most definitely thankful for it, and the dogs do like to sprawl out and lose themselves in the plushness!

What I forgot to mention is that – when the dogs are NOT in the car – the flap cover, which is plush lined on one side and nylon lined the other, can be placed over the pet bed and secured (like a lid). This keeps your belongings away from any dog hairs and doggy smells too. This is a brilliant feature, because however much we love our pets, we don’t like wearing their hair on our clothes!

This boot bed is a much-welcomed addition to my car. It’s a win-win purchase as the dogs love it, and it’s stopping my car from getting scratched by their super-sharp claws. I wholeheartedly recommend this item. The Balmoral Boot Bed comes in different colours. Perhaps a lighter colour might not have shown up so many hairs!
