I love simple games that the whole family can grasp and get involved in straight away. Yeti in my Spaghetti, winner of Game of the Year at the 2017 Toy of the Year Awards, falls straight into this category. The game is beautifully simple and easy to set up.
Yeti in my Spaghetti: Game Play
Game play involves placing the bunch of spaghetti across the bowl in an intertwining layer and placing the Yeti on top. Player 1 pulls a strand of spaghetti out that is least likely to result in the Yeti falling into the bowl. The game continues with each player taking turns to remove the noodles one-by-one, without letting Yeti fall! If the Yeti falls on your go, you lose! The game, from University Games, includes 30 Noodles, a Yeti, a Bowl and Rules and is for 2 or more players of ages 4 years or more.
Players
Yeti in my Spaghetti is the ideal game for when distraction is needed. For instance, our children played it while waiting for their dinner to finish cooking! It can be set up in seconds and is a game of skill that traverses all generations. We played three games within 15 minutes and the kids loved it.
Toby suggested we play it using real spaghetti … which I guess you can (dry spaghetti of course!), but the curly plastic noodles provided with the game are much more challenging.
There are some very simple rules: For instance, when you touch a strand/noodle you must pull it. Also, if the Yeti falls off the bowl (as opposed to IN the bowl) it is still a loss.
Longevity
Yeti in my Spaghetti is a great game to play as a whole family. It gets the kids off their tablets! It’s definitely a game we’ll take up to our caravan this year to play all summer long. There are no long explanations and it is quick and easy. You could even make it a timed speed version if you wanted to.
It is a lovely game and if you have a light touch you will be good at it. Even better is that both boys and girls engage with it and love it equally. A great, fun game.
