MiVue 618 2.7″ LCD Dashboard-Mounted Camera

The Mio MiVue 618 is a neat, unobtrusive dashboard-mounted camera device that can provide additional protection to drivers.

Traffic collisions will nearly always end with some contention as to who is at fault and the phrase ‘it’s my word against yours’ rings true when there is no third party witness. Now the motorist can provide their own independent evidence with a date- and time-stamped video record of their journey. The MiVue 618 can be easily mounted on the windscreen in an unobtrusive position and is powered by your car’s 12v socket. Recordings are saved onto a micro SD card, which you can buy in sizes up to 128mb.

The Mio MiVue 618 is easy to use. It has four function keys that can be used to control it, in addition to the LCD touch screen buttons. The device has four modes: continuous record to record your entire journey, event record which uses a G sensor (detects sharp swerving or collision) to turn the device on in the event of a high speed collision, parking recording to record events around your car while stationary and there is also the option to take photos in camera mode. The videos and stills can be downloaded to your computer using the MiVue Manager program downloaded from the mio.com website: It can also be played back via the device screen if required to show police officers footage at the scene of an incident.

Overall, the MiVue 618 dashcam was easy to use. It does require you to spend a couple of minutes reading the Quick Start guide so that you can get full use out of it, but then it is very easy. I would recommend getting the largest micro SD card, as with constant use they can fill up quite quickly. However if you keep to the Event mode setting this is not an issue.

This is a good solid piece of equipment that will give many years of service. It provides added back up and peace of mind, because ultimately you never know when you might need it.
