Our visit on board Emerald Princess included – importantly for us (!) – time to view the three kids clubs Aft of Deck 17. This post concerns Shockwaves, the club for children between 8 and 12 years of age.
Shockwaves is located between Pelicans and Remix. Although totally separate from Pelicans, there are shared elements and access between Shockwaves and Remix – we accessed Remix via Shockwaves and there is a disco/mixing room with hatches opening to both clubs.
The first impression you get upon entering Shockwaves is the scale of space. Brightly coloured long sofas for socialising wrapped around an open floor area that becomes the perfect dance floor or talent show stage. There are lots of activities on offer for children spending time here, including dance parties, karaoke and talent shows, scavenger hunts, movies and video gaming, sports competitions and theme nights. They also host child-only dinners.
Walking around Shockwaves we saw two modular monitor/games stations, each one housing 6 monitors/seating in a sociable ‘circle. We were informed that Nintendo Wii and Playstation are played here. We also spotted a digital drum kit, that works with the gaming consoles. There is a football/foosball table, large map of the world, an air hockey table, an area of tables and chairs that is good for art, craft and science projects … and a big pile of beanbags!
Linking Shockwaves to the teen-club Remix is a small room containing a mixing deck for shared use between the clubs.
Outside there is access to the Chill Out splash pool and activity space.
Shockwaves opens for morning activities between 9am and 12 noon. Afternoon sessions run between 1pm and 5pm and evening activities take place between 6pm and 10pm. A group childsitting service is available for between 10pm and 1am; there is a surcharge for this. Full-day supervision is also available for port days.
