Well done! You’re all packed for your trip and it’s time to set off for the adventure of a lifetime. All the stress of packing is out of the way and you can actually look forward to a trip you can enjoy. That is how it is meant to work. For many travellers however, there is that slight nagging feeling that they will have forgotten something. If this regularly happens to you then you should see below to see why this no longer has to be the case. This is a great guide to ensuring you remember everything when going on holiday.
Make an itemised checklist
Some people will see this and roll their eyes. Others will jump for joy. This is because there are two types of people in this world. Those that are organised and those that aren’t! An itemised checklist provides structure to many people’s lives and can be a common failsafe when going on holiday. You will have planned in advance to ensure that you’ve got everything covered. The only things that you may need to remember on the day you set off is your toothbrush (though you could buy a holiday toothbrush) and any other necessities that you use daily.
Ticking off this list means you are unlikely to forget anything. However, make sure that it is you that is ticking off your own list. We’ve all been there when we’ve made our own list but a friend (or spouse) ticks off something accidentally or because they think they’ve got it covered. Ticking towels off the list because you’ve packed one rather than two is a prime example. Just be extra organised. It may be boring at the time, but it takes the hassle out of forgetting anything, or thinking you’ve forgotten something.
Don’t forget tickets
We use the term papers quite loosely because everything else is basically digitalised now. Your passport is obviously still paper but even stuff like plane tickets can be downloaded to your phone. It could be that you booked so far in advance to get cheaper flights that you actually have lost the email that the tickets are on. If you have access to a printer, print off the email as a back-up and remember where you put it. It is cleaner and provides for a smoother experience, but it also means there is one less thing to forget. You could forget your phone but let’s be honest, the chances of that are minimal in this day and age.
Your insurance policies
From 2020 onwards however, papers have meant something entirely different. Whilst passports and VISA’s (for longer holidays) are still just as important, there are plenty of other things you need to ensure you don’t forget. We’re now talking about things like travel insurance that covers Coronavirus. This is so important now in case you get stuck abroad or countries close their borders suddenly because of an outbreak. You just need to be prepared. Travel insurance is something that is so easy to forget but it has never been more important. No longer it is just nature that could keep you in a foreign country. Coronavirus has the potential to impact your plans so just be sure you are covered against it. Don’t forget to bring your policy details with you. It could be worthless otherwise.
Back to the checklist
You knew we’d make our way back to the checklist. It’s so important. For long-haul journeys especially, there may be essentials that you need just for the flight. You wouldn’t usually pack these in advance so double check that they are with you when you get to the airport. Most travellers opt to get to the airport early for two reasons. One is to ensure if they have forgotten anything, they can go back and get it. The other is for airport drinks! If it is for the first reason, then the itemised checklist will allow you to settle in and enjoy the second reason.
