Review: Annie’s Grannies in Decorating Disaster by Darron Jon Love

Millie-Mae received ‘Annie’s Grannies in Decorating Disaster’ in the post yesterday. Being a nosey mum, I had a quick read before she got home from school 🙂

Annie’s Grannies in Decorating Disaster is a lovely colourful book, with brilliant illustrations. In total there are 32 pages and the story rhymes, making it extra fun. The story is about a 10 year old girl who spends a lot of time with her two grannies, who live together. On this particular day they decide to decorate a room and it all goes very wrong. Incident after incident occurs, culminating in the attendance of the fire brigade and the sensible decision to call in a decorator. My favourite part was when their dog took one look at the mess, turned around and left the scene!

Talking of 10 year olds, Millie-Mae was keen to read the book, which she managed in less than 5 minutes as she’s quite an advanced reader. My 8 year old son on the other hand would take a bit longer, but would finish the whole story in one sitting. But then this isn’t a challenging chapter book – it’s a fun, light-hearted read for story time. Millie-Mae really enjoyed it, as did my son, but it’s the kind of story that will appeal to all ages including reading it to a younger audience. Mills gives her own review in this short video:

I forgot to mention that the author kindly wrote a message inside the book for Millie-Mae, which was a lovely touch.
