Holiday Read: Thomas Grey and the Lost City by J C Gruit
"Mystery around every corner, a lost treasure and monsters too!"
The first of a new series that follows the adventures of Thomas Grey, a young man with an overbearing mother, a father (who’s a bit of  a wimp!) and a newly awakened sense of adventure. When Thomas’s uncle dies,  he inherits a map to a lost city. Noone knows anything about the map, nor where it is! All the family knew was that Thomas’s uncle was an explorer.
With a move to his uncle’s ‘far from spotless’ country estate, and with the growing nerves of a new school to deal with, Thomas has more than enough to occupy his mind over the school holidays. Oh and let’s not forget ‘a mysterious arrival’ that stirs things up a bit! But the house isn’t all that it seems, and however much Thomas tries to hide its secrets, inevitably his mother soon catches on. What happens next conjures up a mix of Indiana Jones and The Hobbit as the Grey family embark on a journey worthy of Harrison Ford’s approval!
This is an addictive read that kids (and adults) will love. My eight year old loved it and it left her asking lots of questions regarding what happens next … which we hope will be answered in the following books in the series! It is an adventure, it’s funny, it’s scary … it has a bit of everything to keep you interested throughout. We thoroughly recommend this book as a good holiday read. We believe that Thomas Grey is set to be the next big thing and we await his next adventure with anticipation. Find out more from the author’s website – www.jcgruit.com.
My daughter scored the book 4.7 out of 5 because she’d have liked it to be a little longer! It has certainly left her eager to read more …
