Kid K’NEX – The New Budding Builders Set
K’NEX is the modular construction kit for both boys and girls of 10+. Following the success and popularity of K’NEX for older children the company has now introduced Kids K’NEX for ages 3+. The parts are similar in shape but larger and more colourful. I watched a 3 and 5 year old having brilliant fun with the Budding Builders Kid K’NEX group set we received to review. This set has 100 pieces. It is suitable for ages 3-5 years and allows them to build at least 50 different models.
During a two-hour play session, I saw all manner of strange animals and shapes being constructed including dogs, spiders, bats, cats, fish and robots. They loved it and I think it gave them a lot more scope than the smaller bricks and pieces of LEGO or other building systems. They were able to build impressive items, animals, spaceships etc from their imaginations very quickly. Even my older children, aged 8 and 10 got stuck in, making monsters and weapons!
We like ‘boxes of bits’ as opposed to a kit that build a specific item. Lots of different shaped pieces and connectors allow the children the freedom to use trial and error on route to making items they always seem very proud of. This set in particular is a great introduction to K’NEX and gets children used to the pieces before they progress to the sets for older kids. These older kits require you to follow intricate instructions, where the fun lies more in the building and construction. But of course they learn so much about engineering and construction.
K’NEX has hit a winner with its Kid K’NEX range. They can be built quickly, are robust in use and the ‘models’ can be played with as proper toys. Hours of fun for your little ones.
