OK PLAY: 20 Seconds to learn, 15 minutes to play

OK PLAY: The Super Simple 5-in-a-row Game, by Big Potato, at first sight, looks like it could be a difficult game. No, seriously, to me it did! There are four stacks of coloured squares and nothing else – and the simpler a game looks, the harder it often is. But (not for the first time), I was wrong.

On the back of the OK PLAY packaging it says:

• 20 secs to learn
• 15 mins to play
• 2-4 players
• 8+ age

… It really did take us 20 seconds to learn – and 15 minutes to decide it’s one of the best games we’ve played for a long time! My 8 year old son loves dominoes: A favourite local restaurant/pub has a set and he’s always asking to go there, just so he can find the dominoes so we all play a game. OK PLAY has similarities to dominoes – it’s a sort of cross between dominoes and Connect 4. The object of the game is to use your coloured squares to make a line of 5 … and obviously block your opponents achieving the same before you.

OK PLAY is easily transportable. Each stack of coloured squares fixes into a lid with a useful carabiner clip on top, so you can attach it to a bag, belt etc. It’s the perfect travel game – basically it can be played anywhere there’s a table or a floor! It’s quite heavy, so not sure about taking it on a plane, but would certainly pop it into hold luggage as it will be fun to play in a hotel room, on a cruise ship – or even in our touring caravan (where, if I’m honest, we play more travel games than anywhere else!)

OK PLAY: The Super Simple 5-in-a-row Game is my son’s favourite game of the moment. He’s won quite a few times, and when he does he grins from ear to ear (especially if he’s beaten his older sister!) OK PLAY will be out and about in my handbag when we brave the dreaded Christmas shopping – it will provide the much needed distraction when we sit down for a rest!
