Review: The Penclic R2 Wireless Mouse
The Penclic R2 Wireless Mouse is a complete revelation to me. I use a computer for more than five hours per day. Getting pain in my wrists (mouse arm syndrome or repetitive strain injury) has become a way of life. I have tried mouse after mouse, but nothing seems to help. The other day a friend suggested trying the Penclic R2 as it worked wonders for him. I felt I had nothing to lose so I gave it a go.
While working I usually have to take breaks about every five to ten minutes, which is not very productive. By using the Penclic R2, with its integrated buttons and pen grip, your hand and wrist can be in more natural position. It’s totally different from anything I’ve ever used before – it’s design gives new functionality with a combination of innovative Swedish styling and new technology.
The Penclic R2’s pen grip provides a highly relaxed and natural working position. It works as a mini mouse with a scroll wheel on the top. But the main change is the pivoted pen grip attached to the top. The pen allows you to use your fingers for all fine movements and cursor clicking. By using this pen to ‘write’ on the mouse pad a lot of problem movements are eliminated. By adjusting the DPI setting you can make the mouse cover the whole screen with little movement by yourself and change the speed to suit yourself.
The five click point control buttons include left click, right click, middle click and back and forward buttons for browsers and the additional scroll wheel. The Penclic R2 takes rechargeable batteries, which can charge in around two hours and last for two months of regular use. It mimics a pen, but it is not as accurate as a graphics pen.
Successful use takes a bit of practice as you will have so many bad mouse habits when you start. It took me two weeks of solid use to ‘get the hang of it’. You will be rewarded if you persevere. My hands don’t ache nearly as much as they did before. If you suffer from RSI yet need to use a keyboard/laptop for extended periods of time, definitely give this ergonomic gadget some serious consideration. I’m really pleased with it.
The R2 is light and easily transportable. It comes with its own drawstring bag so you can carry it within your luggage/laptop bag.
