The Personal Barber Wet Shaving Box

The box arrived in the post, smart and tidy, carefully packed with all the essential shaving items – safety razor, two soaps, two varieties of razor blade, pre shave oil, shaving brush and after shave cream. All this was packed in wood shavings.

All of the products delivered were of very high quality. If I’m being really picky, to make me feel really spoilt I would have liked the box to also contain a small shaving bowl for mixing the lather, or maybe a face cloth to pre-warm my face. This is the only reason why my review wasn’t 5/5.

Using the kit and following the directions was really a lovely thing. Normally the act of shaving is a daily grind for me, I have never enjoyed it, but by introducing a ritual process to this daily grind I have given my time in exchange for a feeling of being treated. I guess this is a little like the sales pitch L’Oreal aim at women with “because you’re worth it”.

If I’m 100% honest, I have to admit I probably would never have considered buying this item if I hadn’t tried it. I am a bit of a miser and could not have justified the comparative expense, but now that I have tried it, I realize that what The Personal Barber sent me is a lifestyle choice, a new (or should I say old?) approach to shaving. By reviving the traditional practices of safety razor and shaving brush you are pushed to give yourself a little extra attention in the morning, to enjoy a moment to yourself. After experiencing this wet shave package, I would consider spending some money on this gift of peace for my soul.

It is often the little things in life that make all the difference and this could be one of them, if you want to spend a little ‘me time’, then maybe you could be “worth it” too.
