Wicked UKick
"It's quite addictive - I managed 7 keepie uppies - more than anyone else. That's because I'm the best at them in football"
The Wicked UKick is a feather shuttlecock-shaped toy about eight inches high. Described as a “feather kicking shuttlecock” the idea is that a group of kids kick it to each other and keep it in the air. So its a game of keepie uppies or Hacky Sack with a big shuttle cock and it’s developed into a great fitness craze across Europe. We tested this with a small group of three children aged between 7 and 10. Needless to say it took a little while for them to get used to the concept, but after about 30 minutes they started to get quite expert and could keep the UKick in the air for a good couple of minutes before it fell to the ground.
Flushed by this success I tested the UKick with a group of eight Beaver Scouts (ages 6 and 7) and they played with it pretty much for the whole hour session. I did have other activities planned but they had to be put off for the next week! The trouble is, now the Cubs and the Scouts want to have a go – I’m not sure I am going to get the UKick back!
Overall the UKick was a great success and very good at promoting skill and fitness to small groups of children and families. I thoroughly recommend the UKick – but don’t lend it to any Scouts pack because you might not see it again!
