Whenever you read holiday brochures on the Maldives, they all tell you that footwear is optional. For most of the time, they are right. You spend most time barefoot in the beautiful white sand. In the evenings, and for when the sand is particularly hot, a pair of flip flops or sandals is all you need. When BOGS Footwear found out I was heading off on my dream holiday, they kindly sent Huw and I a perfect pair of sandals each.

Huw: BOGS Hudson Webbing Sandals
Huw isn’t one for wearing flip flops … in all the years I’ve known him he’s never wore any footwear with a post between the toes. So, I wasn’t sure how he was going to get on with these ones. In honesty he didn’t have a huge amount of choice because his only other shoes were trainers that he travelled in!

I needn’t have worried. For about 10 minutes of wearing them for the first time he did say a few times that the post between his toes felt strange. But once he got used to it, he wore them all the time, for the whole duration of our time on Kandima island. They are waterproof, so you can walk along the tide line of the lagoon without worrying about getting wet feet.
The Hudson sandals are lightweight and durable. They took up barely any space in his suitcase and were perfect for the full-on beach holiday.
Tracey: BOGS Hudson Leather Sandals
I loved my footwear from the moment I opened the box. I’m not really into blingy things, and these cocoa brown leather flip flops were ‘me’. Again, they were very lightweight and took up next to no space in my luggage. It was often too hot to go bare foot on the beach, so I wore my sandals most of the time.

The sole is really bouncy – you don’t often get this with flip flops as they tend to have very thin, hard, soles. The benefit with these is that you can wear them for quite long periods of time and cover some distance if you need to. We walked around the entire resort on one of the days – I can’t imagine doing that wearing normal flip flops.

After round-the-clock wear, when I packed them back into the case at the end of the holiday, they looked unscathed! Definitely lots and lots of wear still left in them!
