We were invited to review Dough Nab, the Doughnut Grabbing Game. Millie-Mae and Toby enjoyed playing it, but its not a game to take lightly … you need to concentrate to win!
The Game
Essentially, Dough Nab is a mad bakery game for children aged 8 years old plus, and can be played by 3-6 players. You have three different life-sized iced plastic doughnuts and a bunch of doughnut shaped cards (60). When playing you put the plastic doughnuts in the middle of the table. Then shuffle the doughnut cards and deal ten cards to each player face down. The first player (usually the youngest) receives the tracker token.
Each player turns over a card in a clockwise direction around the table. If you see three matching cards at any time you grab the corresponding big plastic doughnut. During game play there are a few jokers that can change the game flow.
Cards
The Don’t Nab! – this means you cannot grab a doughnut until it is covered up. If you nab a doughnut when a Don’t Nab card is shown you must collect all of the other player’s Dough Nab piles.
The Nab! – when you see this card all players must race to grab any doughnut. The player who doesn’t grab a doughnut must collect all of the other player’s Dough Nab piles.
The Magic Doughnut – A sparkly doughnut card that can be used like any other colour so if there are two cards of a corresponding colour then you must grab the doughnut that matches. Three magic doughnut cards at the same time are treated like a Nab card.
Crumbs cards – These have no value and are just there to confuse.
Grabbing the wrong doughnut or grabbing a doughnut with no match means they pick up the Dough Nab piles of all other players. A round ends when a player gets rid of all of their cards, including their Dough Nab pile. The winner is awarded the Head Baker’s hat, a la Bake Off!
The game is an easy one to play but you have to constantly be on the ball to watch for the right doughnut pattern.
