The Nikko VelociTrax is an awesome remote control all-terrain vehicle. Constructed from high impact polymer and designed with 40mm wide tracks the vehicle rarely gets stuck and can move like lightening.
When Toby found out he was being sent the VelociTrax to try out, he was really excited. He LOVES remote control cars. As soon as it was out of the box and fully charged, we realised we needed more space to put it through its paces – our house and garden were just too small! So we took it to our caravan in Norfolk, knowing the site was quite quiet (being term-time) – and that is where the VelociTrax really showed off!
Manoeuvrability
What makes the VelociTrax a bit different are the controls. Each track works independently, so it’s a little like riding a cycle (or driving a real tank). To turn left you ease off the left throttle, and power up the right. To go forwards you push both throttles forward at the same time. It takes some getting used to, but once mastered it’s easy. If you only push one throttle forward, the RC car spins in a circle.
The car is easier to use on rough surfaces, as it’s simply too fast on shiny flat floors! It can even climb hills and inclines of more than 40 degrees. The VelociTrax can travel as far as 130 feet away from you. It has a top speed of 9 mph. Please watch this video to see the VelociTrax in action!
Charging
The remote control is a 2.4GHz unit run with 3 AAA batteries. The car recharges with a fast rate charger in just one hour. To access the battery to charge it, you need to remove it from the base. A full charge gives the RC tank a 20-minute run time.
Warning!
Our experience is that this all-terrain vehicle is brilliant on all terrain – including sand (as you can see in the above video). However, sand being sand it has a habit of getting into unwanted places. In the case of the VelociTrax, it managed to get into the motors. My engineer brother had to take it to pieces to clean out and reassemble before it would work again. You don’t want this, so please keep to non-sand terrain!
Final Thoughts
This must be one of the most robust RC cars we have ever come across. Gone are the days when you could only play with your RC car on carpets indoors, because all other surfaces were unsuitable. This remote-control tank took on every terrain we tested it on. It went particularly well on grass. The VelociTrax is ideal for racing around the drive/field. It is intended for ages 8 to 18.
