SET is a card game the whole family can play. Essentially the game is a version of Snap, but for three cards. You need to look for patterns and when you see a run of three cards you call “SET” and pick them up. At the end of the game the winner is the one with the most SETs. SET is a speed game – you have to be quick and ruthless. Cards have unique colours, shapes and shading. There are SETs of three.
How to play
You deal out 12 cards in a rectangle.
There can be 1-8 players. As soon as the cards are dealt you start looking for sets of three. There are no turns. A player finds a set of three and shouts SET! This is verified by the other players. You then continue until there are no more SETs to claim. Then three more cards can be dealt. Play continues until the deck is gone and all the SETs claimed. A wrong call is an infringement and the player loses one point. If the 12 cards are claimed then 12 more can be dealt. You need to be the one to get the most SETs and be victorious when all the cards have gone.

Family play
SET builds cognitive, logical and spatial skills as well as visual perception skills. The family game is fast and furious. It’s good to play in a confined space such as the caravan or a motorhome. On a recent motorhome trip we played SET and it was brilliant. Millie shouted, Toby cried, the dogs knocked all the cards on the floor and then we played again. It really is a simple game to play with lots of shouting, cheating and sulking. It was the type of game I love with fast furious play. If someone like Toby needs a boost I can kick Millie under the table, nod at Tracey and let him win. It’s that type of game that even though I didn’t win I loved it and brings the family together. This game is a bunch of fun and actually exercises both sides of your brain at the same time. It’s a brain gym in a box!
