So, I would like to start by apologising to those who hoped for a regular upload. I’ve had a very busy time and not much time to upload to YouTube recently. Hopefully, our upload schedule will begin to become clearer as we continue. To start, I have uploaded a cow drawing today!
Anyway, we were in Ireland a month ago, on an Easter break. Quite a lot of driving was involved, so we had plenty of time to admire our surroundings. One thing that we saw a lot of on this trip, were cows.
Literally every field, no matter how large, had cows grazing in it, of all different breeds. We had quite of a laugh when passing a particular field, full of quite small cows. With stubby little legs, they were about half the size of a regular Friesian milking cow. They were brown in colour and arguably adorable. My dad said to me that they were Dexters.
We continued driving to our first accommodation, and while we were there, I had an impulse to paint a cow.
So, I thought to myself, what’s the harm in recording it? So, I did. The whole thing in real time, took around 40 minutes total, and that’s pretty short considering how long I usually spend on my drawings.
Sped up to 8x, it is about 6 minutes long. I used the watercolours that I brought on the trip with me, and used 2 or 3 of my pearl quality brushes, of different sizes. The painting was done in one of my A5 sketchbooks, with pretty high-quality warm press paper.
The whole thing was lined with my favourite fine liners, and painted afterwards.
I tried to incorporate a different style, notably more cartoony, because I was curious and didn’t have the right kind of paper to use my usual ballpoints. I also brought the watercolours with me, so I thought I may as well use them.
