Residential Trip: Day 1
It is Tuesday and my friends and I have been sitting on a coach for 2 hours. We are going on our first residential trip, staying away from home for 3 nights. I’m excited, but I’m a bit nervous too. I’ve been away with my old school on a PGL trip before, but that wasn’t this far away so I am a long way from home.
The first thing we did when we got here was find out what room we are in, and then unpacked. I am sharing with two friends. I’ve picked the top bunk. The room is quite plain, and there’s a sink in the corner for us to use. Toilets and showers are down the corridor. We have teachers in the room next door, so we need to keep quiet this evening 🙂
Just got back from lunch. It was a baguette (tuna) and salad. There was a hot option, but I wanted a baguette. I drank water. I think there was flavoured water too.
Wow, what a busy afternoon. I’m so tired so I won’t write much. This afternoon we did our first activity: wall climbing and abseiling. I wasn’t scared but I’ve discovered I’m not very good at it. It was really hard.
We then had dinner (sausage casserole) and then had a mini-Olympics evening in the sports hall. Non-stop running around. I am so tired. Need to sleep now.
Residential Trip: Day 2
The teachers woke us up really early. Man, I did NOT want to get out of bed. It felt like the middle of the night. I was actually feeling a bit homesick so sat with a teacher at breakfast to take my mind off it. Breakfast was cereal, toast, fruit. Some had sausages. There was a lot of choice.
On the way to our first activity I tripped over and hurt my wrist. A teacher bandaged it up, but it did hurt, especially where I had grazed it. I did have lots of fun though. I couldn’t do a few activities, but tried most of them. One was a huge swing where two people are harnessed and you hold on to a wide log that is lifted high into the air by the team pulling on a rope. When you are as high as you dare go, they let go and you swing. Out of our team, we were the only people who went right to the top! The boy on the swing with me screamed when we started to swing. That was really funny.
I made some new friends today too and I discovered that I am very good at making people laugh.
We had lasagne for dinner. This evening we had a disco. I didn’t think I would dance, but I did. I danced so hard, my feet are still throbbing. There was a conga going around the room at the end. It has been a good, fun, day.
Residential Trip: Day 3
Another really early knock on the door to wake us up 🙁 I attempted to grab a shower, but the water was freezing cold. At least I washed my hair but I was so cold. A teacher re-bandaged my wrist before I went to breakfast. I had cereal, yoghurt and toast today. And a glass of milk.
It was really hot again today. Lots more high ropes activities too, including a cool zip wire. I didn’t like anything you had to climb vertically. If it had a slope I was fine, but anything straight up I didn’t have the strength to do. And it hurt my hand.
We have become a really strong team. I didn’t know many of the other children when we got here, but we are really good friends now. Because I like computer games I seem to have made a lot of new friends that are boys. Lol.
We had a camp fire tonight and sang lots of songs. It was really good fun. I’m having the time of my life.
My room-mates are giggling and whispering all the time. That’s why I’m so tired. I can’t sleep 🙁 We go home tomorrow. Time has passed so quickly. I’m looking forward to getting home now. I’ve bought Toby a present. I think he’ll like it. I can’t wait to see mum and dad. Night.
Residential Trip: Day 4
Another early start, but today we are heading home! I’m going to go and have breakfast now, then come back and start packing my bags before going out on more activities.

I’m on the coach now, on my way home. We are in traffic so it might take a long time. We had a delicious curry for lunch just before we left. This morning we packed our bags and left them ready to be put on the coach. We then went for some more games. Today the main activity was a leap of faith. You had to climb up to a high platform then jump off it and catch hold of a trapeze. I lost the faith and climbed back down. I didn’t fancy it!
On this trip I surprised myself with what I could do. I don’t get scared so heights don’t bother me. But I tried everything and it was all a lot of fun. I did most activities but I can’t climb straight up things. My wrist still hurts quite a lot. And I’m very tired. I’ve made a lot of new friends in other classes, so that’s really good.
I can’t wait to get home now. Mum and Toby are meeting me at school. It seems like forever since I last saw them.
We are near school now so I’m closing my diary. Brilliant trip. Glad to be home.
Over and Out x
