We could, and frequently do, wax lyrical about the awesomeness of the brand new Kandima resort in the Maldives. We recently posted a resort overview, which you can read here. Today, I want to describe the different accommodation options available. There will be a bias towards the Beach Pool Villas with Jacuzzis, as that’s what we were lucky enough to experience 🙂
There are 274 rooms on Kandima, of seven different types to suit all occasions and budgets. These are:
- Beach and Sky Studios
- Beach Villa with Jacuzzi
- Beach Pool Villa with Jacuzzi
- Aqua Villa
- Aqua Villa with Jacuzzi
- Ocean Pool Villa
- Honeymoon Aqua Pool Villa
Let’s look at each of these in turn …
Beach and Sky Studios
The Beach (lower level) and Sky (first floor) Studios are conveniently located a short beach walk from the amazing swimming pool, Flavour/Zest, Azure and Breeze bar area. Walking a similar distance in the opposite direction you’ll quickly reach the Smoked Grill House, Aroma Café and the Beach Club. Each one of the 144 Studios has a terrace/balcony with far reaching views across the lagoon.

These come complete with a double swing seat that looks a whole lot of fun! In the trees surrounding the Studios you’ll find fruit bats roosting … I could sit and watch these for hours!
Each modern Studio has a double bed, pull out sofa bed, spacious bathroom, and large flat screen TV. Room dimensions are 40 sqm, with the balcony being 15 sqm.

There are some ‘Family Sky Studios’ with interconnecting rooms, for larger groups travelling together.
Beach Villas with Jacuzzis
There are 30 Beach Villas with Jacuzzis on Kandima. They all have outdoor seating areas facing the beautiful Indian Ocean lagoon, with a short private path from your villa to the beach.

These villas are the same (minus the pool) as the accommodation we experienced while on the island, which I will describe in detail next …
Beach Pool Villas with Jacuzzis
Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! … Do you get the idea that we were slightly impressed with our room?! It was truly amazing. From the moment we were dropped off by the electric ‘golf cart bus’ we were in awe of our home for the next few days. Beautiful door (which operates using an RFID wristband) that opens up into a room that pure and simply took our breath away. Let me take you on a quick tour …

As you enter the villa there’s a huge double bed against the opposite wall. Fabulous lighting, side tables, colourful cushions and artwork frame the bed. Between the bed and the patio doors there is a contemporary (comfortable) single armchair with coffee table. This faces the large flat screen TV (many channels, resort info etc). Opposite the bed is a double sofa: as this was the children’s bed, it was set up as a bed for the duration of our stay.

In front of you as walk through the door is a large desk/dressing table, with mirror and plentiful power sockets. Adjacent to this is a ‘bar’ area. A surface containing a kettle, coffee machine, beautiful espresso mugs (!), bottled water and glasses.

Underneath is a minibar/fridge and a cupboard containing mugs, additional cups, saucers etc. But a highlight for me was this drawer … I’ve never seen one so organised, I loved it!

Along the wall opposite the bar there’s lots of open hanging space, shelves and storage. In a drawer you’ll find a hairdryer (so you don’t need to pack one!)
And now on to the ‘back garden’ 🙂 It’s not like any yard I’ve ever had! It’s the bathroom, and it’s 100% outdoors. Yes, even the toilet… In this amazing area you’ll find a lovely large sink, with lots of fluffy towels, complimentary toiletries and essential travel kits.

There is a standalone bath (just like the one I want here at home!) and a walk-in rainforest drenching shower that has mood lighting.

Stepping down to the planted area, there is a hooded cabana and a jacuzzi that I can confirm comfortably accommodates 4 people! There’s another rinsing shower set into the wall next to the jacuzzi. It’s all just amazing. I don’t want to be crude, but you find yourself sitting on the loo thinking ‘WOW’ every single visit!
Anyway, back into the villa – and now let walk out the patio doors…
Here you find two sun loungers and a mosaic-topped café table and two chairs. This area has a roof, and a ceiling fan and light under it. During our stay we had one wet hour, when the heaven’s opened (it was the rainy season after all). I sat outside on the patio and watched the rain – it was amazing.

Stepping down from the patio, onto the white sand, you find two more sun loungers, and the pool. Oh, how we loved this pool! It’s tiny compared to the main pool, but it was our private pool that looked out over the Indian Ocean. It’s a memory I’ll never forget.

Our Villa was surrounded by tall palm trees and vegetation, through which a private path had been made that took us straight out on to the beach. It felt like that section of beach/ocean was OURS 🙂
I cannot compliment the room enough. There are 20 Beach Pool Villas with Jacuzzi, along the same stretch of beach as the Beach Villas with Jacuzzis.
 Aqua Villas
At the top end of the resort you’ll find the string of Aqua Villas extending out into the lagoon. Here you are close to the Beach Club, Smoked Grill House and Aroma Café.
There are 30 Aqua Villas. These over-water accommodations are 48 sqm inside space, and 25 sqm outside.
Outdoor space consists of a sundeck with shade, and a step down platform where you’ll find sun loungers with steps down into the lagoon.

Honeymoon Aqua Pool Villas
At the furthest point from land, at the end of the Aqua Villa walkways you’ll find two Honeymoon Aqua Pool Villas. I can’t think of any better way to start married life that some time spent here!

Not only do you have a stunningly beautiful villa with breathtaking Maldives views, but you have your very own infinity pool! Truly amazing.

Ocean Pool Villas
On the opposite side of the island – the ocean side – you’ll find Kandiland (the children’s club), the esKape Spa, as well as the amazing Sea Dragon restaurant. You’ll also find 18 Ocean Pool Villas. These are partly over the ocean with 60 sqm inside and a further 30 sqm outside that includes a sundeck and infinity pool.

Swimming in the ocean from the villas isn’t advised due to strong water currents – but you are never more than a few steps away from the lagoon. While sitting on your sundeck looking out to sea, you may be lucky enough to see the incredible spinner dolphins!
To sum up the accommodation – there’s most definitely something for everyone. It’s all brilliant. There are no ‘bad’ rooms; they all have the wow factor. All are brand new, modern, contemporary, well equipped and comfortable. The rooms are cleaned daily to an extremely high standard too.
