British summertime officially starts when ‘Pick Your Own’ signs start appearing on roadsides outside fields. Wimbledon kicks off, with its equally famous servings of strawberries and cream. The sun shines, and children play outside – seemingly happy to be away from their gaming consoles. It’s the best time of the year. So, when Haribo asked us if we’d like to play with a strawberry pinata – we of course said yes, very quickly!
The Pinata
The pinata arrived in a huge box. Expecting it to be full of air and space, it was surprisingly full – due to the size of the strawberry. It felt rather weighty too – so we knew it was full of good stuff! We quickly arranged to borrow my brother’s garden, as he had the perfect archway from which to hang it.
In terms of size, well we’ve always said that Toby has a large head, so use this as a guide:
Complete with colourful ‘bashing stick’ we set about taking it in turns to hit, until the first piece of treasure fell out. I have to say it did prove a challenge … it’s built quite sturdily. No one hit/one treat guarantee with this baby – you have to work for it!
All three children took it in turns to hit the pinata (we kept stressing for them to face away from the river, else the fishes would swim off with their goodies!) …
But eventually the contents started to release. Then the fun REALLY started!

The pinata was full of mini-bags containing Giant Strawbs Gone Mini. These taste absolutely the same as the chewy, fruity Giant Strawbs, but just smaller bite-sized ones. Suitable for vegetarians, and great for snacks and picnics.

No difference whatsoever, apart from size. The Minis were certainly looked upon favourably by my children and niece … so much so I’ve had to hide most of the bags! They’ll be rationed!
