As wonderful as it is having the kids around you, there are times when you need to focus on yourself for a while. Sure, you’re a mum, and you love spending time with them, but when you do have time to yourself in the day, you can focus on your own needs for a change.
So, instead of spending all of your free time engaged in your chores. And instead of using all of your downtime looking at the clock in anticipation of the kids‘ return from school, do something that will enrich your life.

As ideas on how to spend your day, consider the following.
Treat yourself to a pamper day at home
Being a parent is wonderful, but oh so tiring. You won’t get a lot of time to relax when the children are around, so have the occasional pampering day at home, and recharge your batteries as you do things you enjoy. Have a relaxing soak in the bath, surrounding yourself with relaxing music, aromatic candles, and fizzing bath bombs. Give yourself a pedicure and a manicure, or hire somebody to come over and do it for you. Sit with your feet up and read a book or watch a movie. Focus on anything that will both destress you and make you feel good about yourself.
Start a side-hustle
If you are at home all day, you don’t need to spend every hour you have at your disposal watching daytime telly or doing the housework. Do something practical, such as starting a side-hustle. Not only will this alleviate the boredom you may suffer from during the day, but it will also help you survive those no-money days, giving you extra cash to spend on things for yourself and your family. There are loads of things you can do to make money, from writing a blog to selling your crafts online, so research possible ideas on the internet, and start to grow your money tree.
Go back to school
When the kids go back to school, why don’t you do the same? If there is a local college or community centre near you, there may be classes that will both stir your passions, and give you a step-up with any future career plans you may have. And if you can’t find something that fits in with your child’s schooling, there are courses you can take online, from simple hobby courses to career-advancing courses, such as this Masters in Engineering Management online. We should never give up learning, so to grow in both mind and career, look for ways to educate yourself while the children are studying at school.
Get out of the house
Don’t spend all day at home! Get out of the house and do something useful with your free time. Catch up with old friends and have a cup of tea and a gossip. Join a club and start a new hobby. Spend time in exercise, perhaps going for a walk somewhere scenic alone or with friends. Visit places in your town that you have never explored before. Whatever you do, make the effort to get out of the house, as staring at four walls all day can make any of us go a little stir crazy.
There are loads of ways to spend your time when the kids are at school, and we have only touched upon a few. Let us know what you think, and if you can think of any other ideas, then be sure to let us know!
