Grab a (Pizza) Slice of Fun Before the Winter

What’s the weather like with you today? Drab and damp like here? My feet are cold and I’m considering searching out a jumper. And I’m drinking back-to-back coffee just to keep warm. It’s all rather depressing. So, in this post I’m going to reminisce about when we were baking in 35 degrees sunshine, in Dubai, just 1 month ago. Remember the good times!

Specifically, I want to talk about the amazing roof-top pool in our hotel, and the one water toy I packed that proved to be such a hit!

Travelling to the Sun

Whenever we travel to warmer climes – be it by plane or car – I always look for accommodation with a pool. A villa with a private pool, or a hotel with a good-sized, nice looking pool. Once booked I always go online to find an inflatable to pack in the suitcase for the children to use when we get there. In previous years we’ve had inflatable killer whales, spitfire planes, and even inflatable Pass the Pigs game. This year, for Dubai, I chose an extra-large pizza slice (my children love pizza).

I ordered it from Coolstuff, and when it arrived, I took it out of its box and packed it straight into a suitcase. I didn’t unfold it until we were at our hotel.

Once we had settled into our hotel, and with the children already moaning about the heat, the time was right to unveil our summer pool toy. They immediately unfolded it … and I have to say Huw and I looked at one another, wondering how on earth we were going to blow it up! It took a lot of huff and puff! And all 4 took turns … it really is large!

Portability

Deflated the pizza slice is the easiest thing in the world to transport. But once inflated we were faced with the dilemma of how to get it from our hotel room up to the pool, on the roof. We used the lift of course!

Roof Top Pool

The roof top pool at the Form Hotel in Dubai isn’t huge. It doesn’t have slides or any features as such – but the views are incredible. During the day, the stone floor surrounding the pool was too hot to stand on, so we tended to use the pool at night – and then they turned the lights on for us. We could see the Burj Khalifa lit up in the distance; a wonderful sight.

We were very lucky in that whenever we visited the pool there were no other guests there – so we had it all to ourselves. Which, in a way, was just as well as the pizza slice took up quite a proportion of it!

Usability

When fully inflated the pizza slice comfortably takes the weight of an average sized adult (or two children). What I particularly liked about this one is that, if we bought 7 more, we could tie them all together to make a full pizza! However, we would definitely need a MUCH bigger pool! The box contained the string to achieve this, and there’s loops down the side of the slice to help attach it to another one.

The PVC plastic material is tough and durable – it seems built to last. When we deflated it at the end of our holiday, we packed it away neatly for the next time. It is heavy enough to feel like a quality product.

Verdict

As you can see, we had a lot of fun with our inflatable pizza slice pool toy. It made people smile too (and scared a man who called the lift while Toby hid behind it!)
