A cat needs a scratching post to help keep their paws healthy. Try and get a tall one. If they are not using it then sprinkle on some catnip to encourage use. It also helps to keep them from finding other things to scratch on like your furniture, which is an issue if you do not have something for them to use.

This is where your cat is going to use the toilet, so make sure you keep it in an accessible location. Do not constantly change its location. You need to make sure you clean it out constantly. Otherwise they can be deterred from using it, especially if they are being kept inside a lot.

Some cats can have long fur that when grooming themselves will cause hairballs. Although this is natural in cats sometimes if they are not sure how to get them up it can cause issues. Also the less fur they have to groom the better as then your house isn’t covered in little sicked up hairballs all the time, it will also prevent them shedding while on furniture which can be hard to get off and clean up, so giving them a brush every now and then, especially at the end of winter can really help.
