And parents might be forgiven for thinking that every a teacher does is enough. After all, this is what they have trained for, and it’s what they spend their days doing. 

Of course, the reality is that teachers don’t always have enough time to do everything they want to do and to teach subjects in an in-depth way. This is where the help of parents can be such a good thing. It can enhance your child’s education in a number of ways. Yet there are more reasons than this. High Grades 

Research has shown that children who have parents who are more involved in their education do better at school. They ultimately achieve higher grades. This is not because the parents are doing their child’s homework for them, but it is linked to the child wanting to please the parent. 

If a parent takes an active interest in their child’s education, and if they want to know what they learned about in school or want to see the child’s projects and read their homework, the child will work harder and do more so that their mum and dad will see they are doing well. A child will constantly work hard to make their parents happy. If you can make it clear that your child doing well at school is something you’re keen to see, they’ll try their best to achieve that. 

On top of this is the fact that if a parent is more involved in their child’s education, they will want to help their child improve where possible. They might offer insight and ideas. Although, as we’ve said, this is not the same as doing the work for them. You could also search out online resources that could boost your child’s education, such as videos on the properties of elements, or come up with fun games to play that are secretly educational. 

Better Behaviour 

When parents are more involved in their children’s education, the children in question tend to be better behaved. They don’t skip school, they listen in class, and they are polite to their teachers and friends. Plus, they are more likely to do their homework and hand it in on time with no excuses. 

The main reason for this is that they know their parents will care about how they act. They will have taught them how to behave. Again, they will want to impress their parents and focus at school because those same parents will have explained how important education is. 

Increased Confidence 

When a child feels supported at home in regard to their education, they will have a lot more confidence in school. They will know they can ask questions, and they will be heard. A child will know that not understanding something is not a weakness but a chance to learn. They will also feel much more confident when it comes to new lessons, topics, or even subjects they have never tried before because it will all be part of their education, which is so important. 

A child who is not supported at home won’t have this confidence. They may not know where to turn if they are unsure about something and their teachers are not available, for example. They might even be dismissed entirely by their parents. Whether this is accidental or deliberate, the result – a lack of confidence – will be the same. This can mean other areas of life become more difficult, especially as the child gets older and enters the world of work. So much links back to childhood that a positive educational experience with good parental support can make a huge difference. 

Parents Gain Too

Although it is mainly the child who will benefit when it comes to their parents being more involved in their conversation, there is also something else to bear in mind; parents will gain something too. 

Parents who didn’t have a good school experience or who aren’t confident in their own abilities will be able to learn alongside their children when they are more involved in their education. This will increase their confidence as parents, and it might even open up new opportunities in life.
