Do you ever feel like you have forgotten something as soon as you have left, but think you’re being silly? However, once you arrive, you realise you were right? Or have you ever thought about packing something and thought you wouldn’t need it? But, when you get there, it turns out you did? This has happened far too often. It’s time to create a guide for travelling essentials that will prevent this from happening again.
Here is a list of all the items that you should take with you for every trip away, regardless of where you are headed.

Toiletry Bag
This in itself should be an essential. You need to have something that contains all your toiletries so, if they end up leaking, they don’t ruin your clothes.
When it comes to the contents themselves, make sure you pack the following items. Some of them might seem obvious but every now then, something will be missed and you’ll be ruing your mistake:
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Deodorant and perfume/aftershave (this gorgeous oud scent is to die for if you’re looking for something new
- Shower gel, shampoo and conditioner
- Hair brush or comb and styling products
- Razors and shaving cream
- Moisturiser
- Sun cream and after sun care
- Glasses, contact lenses, solution and sunglasses
- Feminine hygiene products
- Makeup
- Wet wipes
- Prescribed medication and first aid equipment, e.g. plasters
- Nail scissors and filers
- Sewing kit
Clothes to Bring
Packing can sometimes make you feel a bit overwhelmed and cause you to think ‘do you need this’ or ‘what happens if this happens’ etc. If you plan activities before leaving, you should have a good idea about the different outfits you will need.
Some activities will require specific gear but here are some of the basics to ease your worries and get you started:
- T shirts
- Jumper and/or jacket
- Coat
- Dresses and playsuits
- Jeans, chinos and shorts
- Skirts
- Belt
- Jewellery
- Socks
- Shoes and trainers
- Underwear
- Nightwear
- Swimwear including sandals
With these staple items in your bag or case, you cannot go wrong. They cover most scenarios you prepare for. Pack smartly and you will be fine.
Accessories
We covered wearable items previously, which will already be packed away ready to go. By accessories, we mean the extras to keep your experience hassle and stress free.
Here are some of the extras you should definitely be taking with you:
- Snacks for the journey
- Phone, tablet and laptop
- Headphones
- Camera
- Travel speakers
- Chargers for all electronic equipment
- Plug adapters
- Books
The Important Things
Above all else, even if you don’t pack anything, there are some items that cannot be left behind. If you go travelling with nothing but the clothes on your back, you MUST have the following things. Without them, you’ll be in trouble:
- Passport and if needed, appropriate visa
- Driver’s licence
- Money by cash or card
- Insurances e.g., travel insurance
- Confirmations of travel and accommodation if required
Make sure that all your passports and visas have not expired before travelling. It can be an absolute nightmare if they expire before you leave or while you’re away so keep them updated. Also, let your bank card and credit card companies know that you’re going away. This is so they do not block any transactions due to irregular activity.
