Toby recently received a ReimaGO Morgen ski jacket to keep him warm during a trip to the French Alps before Christmas. Luckily it arrived early: The UK had a deep freeze and the first snow we saw this Winter was outside our own back door! Our pre-Christmas trip to the Alps (Grenoble) was the perfect opportunity to field test this fabulous piece of ski-wear. The jacket came in a lovely bright blue colour. The quality is fantastic – proof that ReimaGO is one of the finest brands available. The jacket is 100% polyester, polyurethane lamination material with an overall insulation value of 140g.
The jacket is made of the new stretchy Reimatec® material that is waterproof, windproof and breathable and also repels water and dirt. All the seams are taped to be waterproof. The jacket is specifically designed for skiing and comes with plenty of functionality and thoughtful details. The ski card pocket on the sleeve also features a special pocket for maps and snacks and a detachable and adjustable hood. There is also a special anti-jam zip. And Toby’s favourite pocket – one designed for holding your ski goggles!
The jacket is not just a fantastic looking coat. There is also the option to incorporate wearable electronics.
By using the ReimaGO sensor in conjunction with an App, a parent can set the child targets and monitor their activity and progress throughout the day. On one day during our test Toby was set a target to be active for a minimum of 6 hours, but as it turned out we did some eleven hours of activity all told. He richly deserved the churros he got later as a reward! The App allows the parents to encourage the child by sending emoticons and rewards electronically. In addition, the App allows the parents to fully understand the intensity of the child’s activity efforts.
But ReimaGO isn’t just for grown ups to keep check on their children’s activity level. The App has two buttons when you log in – Kids and Parents. Parents, as mentioned above, can set your child targets and list rewards for when the targets are achieved. The Kids part of App however, is a lot more fun! Their activity (energy used) converts into points that they use to climb a fun game ‘reward chart’ and when you reach the top you progress to the next level.
Although slightly tame for ‘gamer’ Toby, he got quite enthused when he was close to the top of the level, wanting to exercise some more! So it works!
For cold weather activity it is really difficult to fault this jacket. Reima have thought of everything. The zips are colour coded, every pocket has a zip. The jacket is fully breathable to at least 7 000 g/m2/24 hr. The waterproofing is able to withstand a water column of at least 8 000 mm. The jacket is rated for temperatures from 0 to -20°C.
A sturdy piece of winter/skiing kit for children that you will never be disappointed with. It washes really well and is so soft to the touch, I want one for myself!
