Our children were toddlers when we first purchased Snuggle Sacs. I remember ordering them: For Millie-Mae, a pale pink polka dot one; for Toby a baby blue one with polka dots. When not in use they lived rolled up in their zip-up canvas bags … but they were used SO much. They were a great help in getting the children used to ‘big beds’ as they couldn’t shake the covers off so easily. And they are easy to wash too (a must, of course). We did (and still do) lots of road trips – granny and grandpa live 5 hours away – a journey we made fortnightly when they were young. When they moved to bigger car seats, they often wore their Snuggle Sacs underneath the seat belt … brilliant for when we were driving through the night somewhere. And of course, instant bedding as soon as we reached our destination. The material is so soft and cuddly, you couldn’t blame them for wanting to climb into them.
But as with all children, they grow. My two seemed to grow a bit quicker than most and grew out their polka dot Snuggle Sacs about 3 years ago. I thought it was an end of an era. I was so reluctant to get rid of them, the dogs now use them as a super cuddly bed!
One fateful day, quite recently, I was browsing through Instagram – as you do. In my image feed I came across a Snuggle Sac post that mentioned having adult ones. Now, if you knew how many times Huw and I talked about wanting a Snuggle Sac ourselves over the years, you’d understand that this revelation excited me! So off I went to view their website, for the first time in years.
Sizes
I was amazed. Yes, there on the page were the Toddler Snuggle Sacs that we knew so well. But – hang on – now there are Child-sized ones, Teen-sized ones, and Adult ones too! At last! And there are new designs too ?
Toddler
Toddler Snuggle Sacs are 150cm long. They have a TOG rating of 3.4 and are designed for the 1-3 years age group. They have some fabulous designs, including a dalmatian one that I love!
Child
Child Snuggle Sacs are 180cm long and aimed at any child under 4’ 9”. They are 5.2 TOG and have space for a pillow in the built-in pillow case. This pony design one is our favourite.
Teen
The Teen Snuggle Sacs are 200cm long with a TOG rating of 5.2. They are suitable for all people under 5’ 5”. Again, they have built-in pillow cases for you to insert a pillow pad. This one is our favourite style …
Adult
The adult Snuggle Sacs are 230cm long, suitable for people up to 6’ 5”. Also 5.2 TOG, these larger Snuggle Sacs have a 100% cotton lining. This is our favourite …
Camping Upgrade
Earlier this year we realised that our children had started to outgrow our touring caravan. There are triple bunks at the far end and ever since we bought ‘Betsy’ in 2012 the children have slept soundly there. But Millie-Mae is now 5’6” – Toby a little less, but fast catching up. Millie could no longer sleep comfortably in the van.
We decided that the only answer was to purchase a sleeping annexe to attach to our awning – with an airbed mattress they could both sleep in there. In fact, when we told them our idea they were really rather excited. They’ve always wanted to camp … when we tell them we ARE camping, in our caravan, they point out they mean in a proper tent. So, with an awning annexe purchased, and an airbed we already had, I turned my thoughts to their bedding.
Snuggle Sacs
Of course, we could have popped to the high street to get a pair of sleeping bags. But knowing that Snuggle Sac now made larger sized versions – it was a no brainer!
For Millie I picked an adult-sized one, which is grey with white stars on the outside, and red inside.
Toby’s Teen-sized one is navy blue with a red star in the middle, and red inside.
They arrived quickly, contained within individual bags. The adult-sized one comes in a brilliant heavy-duty duffle sack:
… and the teen one was in a long canvas zip bag.
These are great for storing them away when not in use.
First Thoughts …
When the children came home from school and I showed them the Snuggle Sacs, they couldn’t wait to try them out – right there and then, on the living room floor! They both slept in them on top of their beds that night too ?
I put them away until they were needed in their new camping bedroom.
The Camp Out
To be honest, I don’t really need to say all that much about what they thought of their new bedroom, and new bedding … pictures speak louder than words, so let me show you …
