When you want to update your wardrobe but don’t want to splash the cash, it can feel a little out of reach. But there are many things that you can do to protect your money and get the update that you are craving.
Staples
Go through your wardrobe and see what you have in terms of staples. There are a few basics that can make every outfit work. Usually, they will be neutral pieces that are free of patterns and ‘fuss’. They work with everything because they don’t make a statement too often by themselves. White t-shirts, back cami vests, black skinny fit jeans, shirts and a well-cut blazer.
If you can see a few basics missing, then you can start there. Basics don’t have to be expensive, as they are just the foundations of your outfit.
Goodbye
There are probably many things that you have in your wardrobe that you don’t wear and don’t love. So instead of letting them take up space, start selling or donating them. DePop and eBay are great places to sell the clothes you no longer want. And you can add the sales from those purchases into your updating budget.
Thrifty
If you have a list of things that you need, then it might be time for you to head to a thrift store or a clearance sale. If you decide on a budget and know what you need, you won’t buy items randomly. There tends to be a huge range of items and some of which can be almost new, new or designer.
The only downside to thrifting is that you might not be able to find what you want. The upside is you can go back a few times and look!
Accessories
Small details make a big difference. You can change the whole look and feel of an outfit by working with the accessories. For example, if you are going to an evening, meal and you wanted to have something understated. Then you can use a range of dainty rings, earrings and other jewellery. But if you are going to a club, you might want to bling it up a bit and go for chunky rings, and bright, bold necklaces.
You can wear the exact same clothing outfit for each, and they will still have a different vibe because of the jewellery. Sunglasses have a way of adding glamour without doing anything at all. Silk scarves are very versatile. You can wrap your hair, use around the neck, or tie around the handle of your bag.
The most simple ways are often the ones we don’t consider. You can refresh your wardrobe by removing older items, look for gaps and adding basics, and changing up the little details. If you want to go even further, then you might want to check out some of the DIYs that are on YouTube about how to personalise your clothing with patches, badges and sequins.
