It’s the question I’m sure we’ve all answered in our heads, many times. Am I right? Before the children came along, I used to enter competitions. I’d enter over 400 every week … and I would win sometimes too. A weekend in Gleneagles Hotel, a toaster/kettle/coffee maker set, £1000 electrical vouchers, a range cooker, a crate of wine – a new iphone and even a brand new convertible car! I don’t have the time to commit to the ‘hobby’ anymore, so instead enter all the lotteries and TV competitions that I can quickly enter by text, or I use Lottoland where I can ‘bet’ on overseas lotteries too. I’ve played the National Lottery, with the same lines, since week 1. I remember it well – the first three numbers that fell in the very first lottery … all my numbers! I thought “wow, this is easy!” That’s where the luck ended though …
Why Do I Play?
I play the lotteries because it’s the only way any of my dreams could become reality. Money, unfortunately, tends to leave my bank account at the same rate it goes in. We have a comfortable life – but it’s not luxurious, and a lot of my dreams need ‘additional funds’.
What’s on my ‘Wish List’?
So, what would I spend my winnings on? Obviously, it depends on how much – there’s a big difference between £100,000 and £100 million – but here’s the top of my list …
- New Car: I love my little car, but the children are taller now and they knee me in the back when travelling behind me … so it’s time for a step up, to something a little bigger.
- Home Renovation: After paying off the mortgage, we’ve always fancied converting the loft, and extending the kitchen – these are the big jobs. Smaller jobs include a new bathroom, kitchen and decorating top-to-bottom (to save us doing it!)
- Travel: Gosh, we want to see the whole world, so a world cruise would be a start as this will show us some highlights on any given continent … then we can book to go back and explore the places we liked most.
- Treat our Family and Friends: This is quite difficult as we’ve always said that we’d not ‘go public’ if we won the lottery … but word will soon get out if we start offering to pay off friends’ mortgages, or buying them a new car, or gifting them a dream holiday or garden summerhouse! But these are things we’d like to do.
- A Seaside Bolthole: I have always dreamed of owning a little fisherman’s cottage decorated with a nautical-yet-contemporary theme. Quaint on the outside, modern on the inside, with big views over the sea. And direct access on to the beach. It would be in the UK – either Norfolk or Wales. Somewhere we could escape to get away from the stresses of daily life.
- Charity: We’d definitely donate some much-needed funds to some local small charities that don’t have the marketing budgets of the larger one to attract attention. There’s a lot of unsung heroes in our communities tirelessly working to help others – these are the small charities that I’d donate funds to, to make their tasks a little easier.
