I suppose the teens of today will just see a cute pink and white striped cat … but the rest of us will know who Bagpuss is. The old shaggy cat who lived in a shop that didn’t actually sell anything! They only made 13 episodes before the BBC shelved it – the fact that many of us know the name of this cat suggests they made a clear mistake! I think Bagpuss is due a revamp and revival (the campaign starts here people!)
In the meantime what about a cuddly Warmies UK Bagpuss (RRP £19.99) to keep your teenager warm as winter approaches? RIO ROLLER SKATES FROM SKATES.CO.UK
“The Original Fashion Skate”
When I was a teenager (back in the day when we could only see black and white – ok, maybe not quite that far back), I had some rollerskates. They were red and white, and very ’80s’. I had all the knee and elbow pads too – and boy did I need them! My balance just wasn’t very good. I spent more time on the ground than I did on 8 wheels. But I do remember feeling rather cool when I did manage to skate a length of pavement without crashing out.
These retro Mayhem II quad rollerskates by Rio Roller (RRP £89.95 [currently £69.95] from Skates.co.uk) remind me a lot of my old skates. I think these are way more cool though. And skating is as popular now as it has ever been; I often see young teens on their skates when I’m out walking my dogs. And isn’t it good to see children away from the tech of phones and games consoles? I think these skates are awesome. (Yes, I’m tempted … but I’d likely end up requiring two new hips, two knees and a few additional plaster casts..!)

Confession: I had never heard of shower steamers, until SMUG. got in touch to tell me about these LEVEL Wellbeing shower steamers (RRP £12.00). And they are such a perfect gift for teenagers (and mum, if any teens are reading this!) The concept is quite simple – you drop a shower steamer tablet onto the floor of your shower and the generated steam picks up the aromatherapy oil scent in the tablet that you then breathe in.
This set comes in eight scents – Mango, Lavender, Tea Tree, Rose, Peppermint, Coconut, Eucalyptus, and Floral Jasmine. Which one you select depends on your mood/feeling … there are some great ones here to energise you, others to help you relax … and some that will even help clear your sinuses (and let’s face it we’re all full of the sniffles during the winter months). And they smell divine! This is a great stocking filler.

We lost our Supercat Roddy this year to chronic kidney disease. He was such a character, and even though we still have our two spaniels, the house feels empty without him. So we all spend way too long on instagram watching cat videos! In honesty, I don’t think it will be too long before another feline joins the family. I’m rather tempted to go for a male Maine coon kitten – one of the giant ones!
Cats are incredible creatures. Roddy singlehandedly (single pawedly?) taught me that. And this book – Lonely Planet Kids Atlas of Cats (RRP £14.99) is full of interesting and fascinating facts about cats. 100 different breeds are discussed, along with the breed history, basic cat anatomy, their super-powered senses … and it even teaches you how to talk cat! A fab book to gift this Christmas.
TEARS OF THE KINGDOM ZELDA SCROLL BY LUKREDS EMPORIUM
“A Zelda Gift That’s as Unique as Your Favourite Game”
I’m approaching this review more from the appreciation of the artwork than from my flawless knowledge of The Legend of Zelda. My daughter had one of the games (Ocarina of Time) many moons ago, which she used to play on her Nintendo handheld console. She really enjoyed it – and I know millions of others do too. I could write what I know about The Legend of Zelda on the back of a postage stamp: It’s set in a ficticious medieval western European world called Hyrule, and Zelda is one of the characters.
Tears of the Kingdom is a 2023 Zelda game. Zelda, and another main character called Link, set out to explore the caves beneath Hyrule Castle. An Upheaval happens and Zelda falls, returning as Phantom Ganon (a demon king has disguised himself as her); they then fight to defeat Ganon, which they win. And this is depicted brilliantly in this Tears of the Kingdom Zelda scroll poster by LukredsEmporium (RRP £24.99). Approximately A3 in size, with 3D printed scrolls and printed on vintage paper, this scroll will look amazing on any gamers wall. It’s a beautiful piece of art.

My teens have had mini fridges for a few years now. OK, so my daughter is a Type 1 diabetic, and hers is a necessity to keep her insulin pens close to hand as they need to be refridgerated. And there’s one in the gaming room – and this is for cans of pop and treats when they are in the room playing. So when I saw this #So Chill! mini fridge by Canal Toys (RRP £44.99 [currently £34.99]) I thought it’s a great gift idea! Cans of drink, cosmetics and other make-up items … and what’s cool about this is that it comes with a sheet of stickers so you can personalise it. And the base colour is trendy too (also available in black).
I think this is great addition to a teenager’s space.

Teenagers of today love their phones. Whether us grown-ups approve or not doesn’t stop them wanting to use their devices as cameras, video cameras, TVs … I, myself, have stopped using my digital SLR camera in favour of my smartphone. I just find it easier, and obviously less cumbersome to carry around. Smart phones will never (now I’ve said that, they will!) equal or better a standalone camera – but with the right apps and additional kit, you can achieve a lot. We take lots of wildlife photos (and ones of the sky at night and northern lights). For this we need a very steady hand … or even better, a tripod or this GripTight PRO 3 GorillaPod from Joby (RRP £86.95). These are great as you can grip them onto so many things, or use as a sturdy short tripod; great if you want to record a talking to camera piece.

It effortlessly attaches to your iPhone using MagSafe and provides the perfect light for flattering results. It also works as a mirror, and can be forward facing too. Great kit for teenagers wanting to use their phone creatively for more than just taking/receiving calls.

Here’s one for every Lilo & Stitch fan. This is just what their desk or bedside table needs – an Underpants Hero Holdems (RRP £19.99)! What does it do?
